Welcome to the new year - 2020! I like the sound of that…2020…perfect vision…as if that holds promise for the time ahead.
I’m one of those who pick a word for the year…rather than making resolutions that seem doomed from the start, a word for the year is a guide…a compass to which one can use to guide their way. My word for 2020 is BALANCE.
A lot happened in 2019…not all of it positive…but looking at 2020 with a fresh perspective, I realize that I need to strike a balance in my life. I retired from my ordinary part-time job in November 2019 which has been a bit of an adjustment…no longer tied to a time clock nor a schedule set by others, I’m a little off kilter. I’m excited to have more time for art…and for the Southern Man…and for traveling…but the mortgage still needs to be paid and someone has to cook dinner…at least once in a while.
I want to strike a balance between responsibility and freedom…between activity and rest…between experimental approaches and conventional wisdom.
So I have been compiling a list, and making some plans…but still want enough flexibility to go with the flow. I don’t want to lose sight of some of the ideas I have, so I thought I would gather them together in one place…and thus was born the kernel of my next workshop…
I figured that I’m not alone in gathering ideas…so you are invited to join me at my next workshop, 2020 Hopes & Dreams Box. Using a solid wood cigar box, we’ll glue, collage, drill, wire, embellish whatever we wish to inspires us in the year ahead. There will be plenty of supplies, ephemera, tools at your disposal (including power tools!) The workshop will be held on Saturday, January 25 at my home in Everett. The class will run from 10am - 4pm and will include refreshments to keep you creating all day long. Since this project will be more involved and intensive than other workshops I’ve held, it will be limited to 6 participants. The cost of the workshop is $65 and you can register for it on the CALENDAR page of my website.
In preparation for 2020, I reviewed my word from last year and what I had hoped to REFRESH in 2019…I actually did a decent job of getting re-organized and re-focused on my art and my design business so I feel that I’m ready to take off in new directions in the coming months. I hope you’ll continue to follow along…and feel free to email me anytime with your comments, ideas, suggestions and what your word is for 2020…I’d love to hear…
